Abstract
Pseudomurilentithecium is a poorly known genus with limited records, primarily reported from Italy as saprobes, and its taxonomic placement remains uncertain. In this study, fungal specimens were collected from Spartium junceum in Italy and identified based on morphological characteristics and multi-locus phylogenetic analyses using LSU, ITS, SSU, tef1-α, and rpb2 sequence data. The present study clarifies the current taxonomic placement of the genus Pseudomurilentithecium based on phylogenetic analyses. The result shows that Pseudomurilentithecium forms a distinct clade within Pleosporales, clustering with the clade comprising four families such as Thyridariaceae, Roussoellaceae, Torulaceae, and Pseudocoleodictyosporaceae. Based on these findings, a new family, Pseudomurilentitheciaceae, is introduced to accommodate this unique genus. Additionally, a new species, Pseudomurilentithecium spartii, is described herein with detailed morphological characteristics and illustrations provided.
