Abstract

This paper presents nomenclatural notes and typification of names of plant taxa described by Josif Pančić from the Principality of Bulgaria. Of the twenty one taxa newly described in Elementa ad floram principatus Bulgariae and Nova elementa ad floram principatus Bulgariae, type material is designated for fourteen taxa: Allium melanantherum, Anthemis cinerea, Anthemis orbelica, Barbarea rivularis, Cerastium petricola, Cirsium heterotrichum, Knautia macedonica var. lilascens, Knautia magnifica var. flavescens, Poa alpina var. orbelica, Saxifraga aizoon var. racemulosa, Scabiosa triniaefolia var. setigera, Sempervivum leucanthum, Senecio erubescens and Verbascum jankaeanum. Six names (Aconitum divergens, Campanula orbelica, Cardamine amethystea, Geum bulgaricum, Hieracium balkanum and Viola orbelica) have previously been typified, whereas no original material was located for Oenanthe meoides. In addition, Pančić’s botanical expeditions in the Principality of Bulgaria from 1882 to 1883 are reconstructed.
