Abstract
Previously, a new status, at the rank of section, as Kalanchoe sect. Trichanthae, based on K. [infragen. unranked] Trichanthae that Alwin Berger validly published in 1930, was published for three species, K. synsepala, K. tetraphylla, and K. berevoensis, which, inter alia, share a similar pseudo-rosulate growth form. The section is included in the Madagascar-endemic K. subg. Calophygia, which was described by Bernard M. Descoings in 2006 and extensively emended in 2023 for the woody clade of the genus. The circumscription of K. sect. Trichanthae is here amplified to include K. eriophylla, one of the earliest species described from Madagascar in the mid-1800s, more than 30 years after it was first collected on the island in the early 1820s. At the rank of series, K. ser. Eriophyllae is published for K. eriophylla and K. ser. Trichanthae is published for the three species to date included in K. sect. Trichanthae. This paper forms part of ongoing studies in the Plakkie family, including in Kalanchoe (Crassulaceae [subfam. Cotyledonoideae] tr. Kalanchoeae).
