A revision of Vochysia section Pachyantha (Vochysiaceae)

Abstract

A taxonomic revision of the species of Vochysia sect. Pachyantha is presented. This section is delimited from the other sections of Vochysia by the ovary pubescent; corolla absent; stamen glabrous to pubescent on one or both sides, and older branchlets with cortex deciduous to persistent. This section is distributed in tropical humid in the Guayana Shield, lowlands Amazonia and Andes foothills of South America. In a geographical and taxonomical context, V. kosnipatae is considered a synonym of V. leguiana and V. stafleui of V. pachyantha. A morphological description of species belonging to this section is presented, a key to distinguish sections of Vochysia, and a key of species of the section. In addition, the conservation status of the eight species of Vochysia sect. Pachyantha is also presented.
