Abstract

Aristolochia vanniformis, a new species of Aristolochiaceae from Damingshan Nature Reserve, Guangxi, China, is described and illustrated. This new species resembles A. championii in its woody lianous habit, narrowly lanceolate leaves with rounded to truncate bases, and a large campanulate calyx limb, but differs from the latter by a calyx limb with incurved adaxial lateral lobes (vs. revolute), a yellow lobe with dark purple reticulate stripes (vs. reddish-brown without reticulate stripes), an elliptic and purplish-black throat (vs. semicircular and bright yellow), and a taller gynostemium, 5.5–6 mm high (vs. ca. 3–4 mm high). Color illustrations and ecological information are provided, together with a comparison of the morphological characters of the most similar species.
