Abstract

The subgenus Nolanea of Entoloma comprises a diverse, species-rich group widely distributed across temperate and tropical regions. A new species of Entoloma subgenus Nolanea from the Guangxi Autonomous Region, South China, is described herein. Morphological comparisons and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) phylogenetic analysis show that this species differs from previously known taxa in both diagnostic morphological features and phylogenetic placement. The new species is characterized by small basidiomata, a conical cap with prominent dark papillae, and white to grayish-white gills with heterogeneous edges. Its basidiospores are cubic, predominantly five-angled in side view, with elongated angles. Phylogenetic analysis of ITS sequences places the new species within Entoloma subgenus Nolanea; its two sequences cluster together with strong support and form a distinct lineage closely related to E. piceinum and E. atropapillatum.
