Abstract

A new species, Hieracium ratkae (Asteraceae), from western North Macedonia, is described. It is endemic to the Radika River basin and is currently known from three localities at elevations of 950–1730 m, two on Bistra Mt. and one on Korab Mt. Its morphology is intermediate between H. sparsum and H. bifidum s.l., and it is therefore included in the H. retyezatense aggregate. The main diagnostic features include stems up to 65 cm tall; branches and peduncles without simple and glandular hairs; leaves mostly spotted and always glabrous above; basal leaves broadest below or at the middle, denticulate to subentire; outer and middle involucral bracts obtuse to subacute; involucres with numerous simple hairs and sparse glandular and stellate hairs; and brownish styles.
