Abstract

Cryptocoryne esquerionii var. purpurea, a new endemic variety discovered in Zamboanga del Norte, Western Mindanao, Philippines, is herein described and illustrated. A detailed morphological description, colour plates, distribution, ecology and provisional conservation status are provided. In addition, updated field records and conservation notes for C. coronata, a species previously known only from cultivated material of uncertain provenance, are presented. These findings further highlight Zamboanga Peninsula as an important region of Cryptocoryne diversity in the Philippines.
