Eudicots Balsaminaceae Impatiens sect. Racemosae Impatiens sect. Uniflorae New Taxa Taxonomy

Abstract

Two new species of Impatiens (Balsaminaceae) from Yunnan, China, are here described. Impatiens rostrisepala can be easily recognized by its pale purplish-red (rarely white) flowers, and lower sepal being deeply infundibuliform, concave near the mouth on the lower side, and usually with a long beak at the mouth. Impatiens leptophylla differs from its closely related species in having lamina with an acute apex, venation with prominent midrib and indistinct tertiary veins adaxially, yellow flowers, and lower sepal spur with a non-circinnate apex. Molecular phylogenetic analyses based on both nuclear ribosomal and plastid DNA sequences further support the recognition of these two taxa as distinct species.
