Abstract

Pimpinella downiei (Apiaceae) is described as a new species from Kozluk Valley, Malatya Province, eastern Anatolia, Türkiye. The species most closely resembles P. paucidentata and other yellow-flowered members of Pimpinella sect. Reutera subsect. Flabellifoliae, but differs in its decumbent, densely pubescent stems; densely pubescent leaves, umbel rays, and abaxial petal surfaces; yellowish-green petals with a distinct purplish median region; and basal leaves bearing 5–10 triangular teeth. Morphological, fruit anatomical, and nrDNA ITS sequence data support its recognition as a distinct species. Pimpinella downiei is currently known only from calcareous slopes in Kozluk Valley and is assessed as Critically Endangered under IUCN criterion B2ab(ii, iii), pending further field surveys.
