Abstract

Psammogeton kouliana Bhellum & Magotra (Apiaceae), a new species from Jammu & Kashmir in the north-western Himalaya, India, is described and illustrated. The species is morphologically allied to P. tyleribut differs in its smaller habit, reduced leaves and petioles, 1–2 peduncles per node, and distinct morphology of bracts, bracteoles, and fruits. Diagnostic characters, phenology, and habitat details are provided. A comparative table highlighting morphological differences between closely related taxa is presented, along with an identification key to allied species. The discovery adds to the floristic diversity of the genus in the Indian Himalayan region.
