Abstract

Ophiopogon longiscapus (Asparagaceae), a new species from southeastern Yunnan, China, is described and illustrated herein. It is morphologically similar to O. longifolius, but can be readily distinguished by its slender roots lacking fusiform tubers, thick and branched rhizome with densely crowded nodes, scape exceeding the leaves, racemose inflorescence occupying only one-quarter to one-third of the entire scape length, narrowly elliptic perianth lobes white adaxially and pinkish-purple abaxially, spreading flat at anthesis, and anthers 5.2–8.3 mm long, yellowish-green. Notes on its habitat, phenology, conservation status, and comparisons with allied species are also provided.
