Abstract

Three new species of Cistanthe sect. Cistanthe (Montiaceae), Cistanthe acrochorda, Cistanthe lanceolata, and Cistanthe antofagastana, are described from northern Chile (23.5°S to 28.5°S). The species concept is based on an integrative approach combining morphological and geographical criteria, and the study relies on an exhaustive revision of herbarium specimens complemented by field observations. For each species, detailed morphological descriptions, geographical distribution, habitat preferences, and potential relationships within the genus are provided. The three species are illustrated and assessed according to the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria. A comparison table and an identification key are provided to distinguish morphologically similar species of the sect. Cistanthe along the coastal areas of northern Chile.
