Taxonomic Notes on Poa albertii subsp. lahulensis and Poa falconeri (Poaceae) from Their Type Localities

Abstract

Poa is considered one of the most taxonomically complex genera within Poaceae, making its lesser-known taxa particularly important for systematic investigations. During field surveys in the cold desert of the Western Himalaya, numerous collections of Poa were examined, leading to the rediscovery of two exceptionally poorly known taxa from their respective type localities. The present study documents the recollection of Poa albertii subsp. lahulensis from Lingti, Lahaul & Spiti after approximately 84 years and Poa falconeri from the Nelong Valley after nearly 141 years since their original collections. Based on these long-awaited fresh collections, emended descriptions and updated information on morphology, distribution, habitat, and phenology are provided.
