Abstract
Clerodendrum ismaili (Lamiaceae), a new species from Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, East Java, Indonesia, is described and illustrated based on morphological evidence. The new species is characterized by its relatively large shrub habit, white flowers, entire leaf margins, rounded to truncate leaf bases, erect terminal thyrses, and villous corolla, together with several distinctive floral characters. Morphologically, it most closely resembles C. calamitosum, but differs in a combination of vegetative and reproductive characters, particularly habit, leaf margin, leaf base, inflorescence structure, and floral indumentum. Field observations indicate that C. ismaili has a geographically restricted distribution in the southern slopes of Mount Semeru and occurs within mountain forest habitat. Its restricted distribution and limited known population raise significant conservation concerns. Based on the available distributional and population data, a preliminary conservation assessment is provided following the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria. A detailed description, diagnosis, phenology, distribution, habitat, notes on conservation status, and illustrations are provided to facilitate recognition of the new species.
