Abstract

Here we aim to describe Catasetum × carllosianum as a new natural hybrid from the Brazilian Amazon and to provide taxonomic notes on its parental species. The nothospecies was collected in the central region of the state of Rondônia resulting from natural hybridization of two species supposed to be C. boyi and C. semicirculatum. We propose a detailed morphological description, photograph plates, and comparisons with the parent species, as along with data relating on its distribution, habitat, and ecology. Additionally, we discuss the history of the types specimens used in the description of C. fernandezii, including the designation of a lectotype for this name. Finally, we propose to place C. interhomesianum and C. rondonense into the synonymy of C. boyi and C. fernandezii into the synonymy of C. semicirculatum.
