Abstract
Exploration of microfungal diversity from terrestrial substrates in different parts of the Western Ghats of India led to the discovery of a distinct taxon referable to Corynespora. Morphological characterization coupled with multigene phylogenetic analyses of ITS, LSU, and SSU sequence data confirmed the taxon as a novel species, Corynespora bharatensis, belonging to family Corynesporascaceae (Pleosporales). The novel species is introduced with a comprehensive description, photoplate and multigene phylogenetic analysis, along with an updated molecular phylogeny of the genus Corynespora.
