Fritillaria xiyanensis (Liliaceae), a new species from south-eastern Anatolia, Türkiye

Abstract

Fritillaria xiyanensis Balos & Sonay (Liliaceae) is described as a new species of Fritillaria from southeastern Türkiye. This species has been compared with its morphologically close relatives, Fritillaria eceri Balos & Eker and Fritillaria bercemiae Sonay & Balos. This study provides a detailed morphological description, comprehensive illustrations, a comparative assessment with closely related taxa, a distribution map of Fritillaria xiyanensis and related species, a key for Fritillaria xiyanensis and the most morphologically similar species, and a preliminary evaluation of its conservation status according to IUCN criteria. With the recognition of Fritillaria xiyanensis, the number of Fritillaria species occurring in Türkiye increases to 62, of which 38 are endemic.
