Abstract
Hybridization allows adaptations to be shared among lineages and may trigger the evolution of new species. This study documents a natural nopal hybrid, Opuntia ×speciosa nothospec. nov., recently discovered in Mexico. It is characterized by a juvenile cladodes, flowers, fruits xoconostle-like and seeds (lenticular). Morphological and molecular evidence confirms its status as a natural hybrid. The phylogenetic analysis placed the new species within the Opuntia s.str. clade with well-supported. Strong bootstrap and Bayesian Inference values affirm these relationships, with notable diversity in Opuntia indicating potential adaptative radiation. Detailed morphological description, photographs, microscopic structure images, and phylogenetic analysis results are provided.
