Abstract

Two new species and one new variety of the genus Cheilolejeunea are described from tropical America: Cheilolejeunea longiangulata from Amazonas (Brazil), Cheilolejeunea microstipulata from Bahia, Ceará, Pará (Brazil), and Guaviare (Colombia), and Cheilolejeunea rigidula var. granulomarginata from Bahia, Amazonas, Paraná, São Paulo (Brazil), Prov. de Alajuela (Costa Rica), and Prov. Chiriquí (Panama). Cheilolejeunea longiangulata is characterized primarily by the presence of three strongly thickened cells on the ventral margin adjacent to the lobule apex strongly thickened, and the cell at the junction with the keel presenting a large, strongly lenticular papilla. Cheilolejeunea microstipulata is a small plant with suberect to obliquely patent leaves and tiny, distant underleaves. Cheilolejeunea rigidula var. granulomarginata is a variety presenting leaf lobes with margins grainy, irregularly crenulate, leaf lobules frequently reduced, and underleaves frequently small, bifid to 1/2–2/3, suborbicular, lobes triangular-acute, margins irregularly crenulate. An identification key for Brazilian Cheilolejeunea species is presented.
