Abstract

For Scleria subgen. Hypoporum, 214 species and infraspecific names were published since the first publication of the name Scleria. These names represent 76 accepted taxa, representing 72 species of Scleria subgen. Hypoporum. Herbarium material of all recognised species was studied, including the type material if available. Synonymy and typification in Scleria subgen. Hypoporum was thoroughly investigated. Fifty-six lectotypes and two neotypes were newly assigned. An identification key for the subgenus is presented. For each species, synonymy and types are cited, a description is provided including information on distribution, habitat and a list of additional specimens examined. Taxonomical difficulties and remarkable observations are added in notes. A useful overview of all published names linking them to their accepted taxon is added.
