Abstract
Aspidistra poilanei, a new species discovered in Quang Tri Province of central Vietnam, is described and illustrated. The new species is morphologically close to A. pingtangensis, but differs in shorter petiole, smaller leaf blade, larger perianth, deep purple (vs. milk-white) perianth tube outside, larger white (vs. purple-red) perianth lobes, stamens inserted at 1/3 (vs. 2/3) of the height of the perianth tube, and wider stigma. A detailed morphological description of A. poilanei is presented along with information on its ecology, phenology, conservation status and distribution, as well as relevant taxonomic notes and analytical photographic illustrations.
