Abstract
A new large-celled species of the monoraphid genus Skabitschewskia from freshwater environments of the Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia, is described based on a thorough morphological analysis with the use of light and scanning electron microscopy. The new species is characterized by large elliptic-lanceolate valves, a large cavum with a wide opening, characteristic ornamentation of the valves and a row of silica protrusions located along the valve edge. A comparison with morphologically close species is given. Furthermore, several new combinations for infraspecific taxa of Achnanthes peragalloi are suggested.
