Abstract

The taxonomy of two European species of Anthoceros, A. mandonii Steph. and A. caucasicus Steph. belonging to Anthoceros sect. Fusiformes Grolle is discussed. Anthoceros mandonii formerly treated as a synonym of A. caucasicus is shown to be an autonomous species. Detailed descriptions with drawings are also given for two little known African species of Anthoceros sect. Fusiformes (A. sambesianus and A. pinnatus) and their taxonomic status is discussed.
