Aspidistra thanhhoaensis (Asparagaceae: Convallarioideae), a new species from North Central Vietnam

Abstract

Aspidistra thanhhoaensis is described and illustrated as a new species of Asparagaceae from Thanh Hoa Province, Vietnam. It resembles A. bogneri in floral shape, but easily distinguished by the upright rhizome, linear-lanceolate leaf blade, stamens inserted in the upper half of perianth tube, and peltate stigma that is cream-white with slightly purple at margin. The new species is currently known only from the type locality in the North Central Vietnam. A detailed taxonomic description along with photographs of the diagnostic characters is presented.
