Two new species of Castanediella revealed by phylogenetic and morphology analyses from Guizhou, China

Castanediellaceae hyphomycetes saprophytic fungi taxonomy Xylariales Fungi

Abstract

During a survey of hyphomycetes associated with garden plants in Guizhou Province, China, several fungal taxa belonging to the genus Castanediella were collected. In this study, two new species were identified: Castanediella castaneae is characterized by short, hyaline conidiophores and 0–1-septate, hyaline conidia, while C. aseptata is distinguished by pale brown conidiophores and aseptate, hyaline conidia. Phylogenetic analyses were performed based on a combined dataset of the internal transcribed spacer region of ribosomal DNA (ITS) and large subunit nuclear ribosomal DNA (LSU) sequences to determine the phylogenetic position of these species. The resulting tree showed that C. aseptata formed an independent clade, whereas C. castaneae clustered with C. malaysiana as a sister clade.
