Abstract
A new species, Volvopluteus yunnanensis, collected and described from Yunnan Province, China, is introduced based on morphological characteristics and molecular evidence. Morphologically, it is characterized by basidiospores larger than 11 μm, a gelatinous pileipellis, a pileus with a dark blonde (5D4) center and birch grey (5C2) margin, and a smooth, membranous volva. Phylogenetic analysis of the internal transcribed spacer (nrITS) sequences supports the placement of Vp. yunnanensis as a novel taxon and a distinct member of Volvopluteus, forming a clade separated from other Volvopluteus species. A full description, illustrations, and phylogenetic analysis results for the new species are provided.
