Abstract

Aspidistra foetida, a new species of Asparagaceae from Guangxi, China, is described and illustrated. The new species is similar to A. cruciformis, but differs by its leaf blade margin entire, flowers spread a peculiar smell, perianth urceolate, lobes longer and nearly equal to the length of tube, stigma smaller and nearly equal to half the width of tube, upper surface nearly round and densely purplish red finely papillose, shallowly 8 (6)-lobed at margin. The new species is currently known only from the Karst areas in eastern Guangxi. Detailed analytical colour plates and line drawing, data on morphology, ecology, phenology, distribution, and provisional conservation status are provided.
