Abstract

A new species, Hymenagaricus bhakkarensis, is described from Pakistan based on morphology, and nrITS and nrLSU sequence data. Hymenagaricus bhakkarensis is characterized by small basidiomata with an appendiculate, squamulose pileus, slightly bulbous stipe, brown to dark brown basidiospores, the presence of pseudoparenchymatous hyphae, and the absence of clamp connections. This species forms a sister clade with Heinemannomyces splendidissimus but is morphologically different, moreover, molecular analysis separates the two sister clades with a strong bootstrap of 100 %. In addition, Xanthagaricus taiwanensis, a species originally reported from Taiwan, is recorded for the first time in Pakistan.

We provide illustrated morphological descriptions, phylogenetic analyses, and comparisons with morphologically-similar or phylogenetically-related species for the new species and the new record.
