Abstract
The species from what commonly is referred to as the “Dysosmioides group” are a convoluted and poorly understood group of 12 taxa from genus Passiflora supersect. Stipulata native to southeastern Brazil. Their systematic allocation has challenged taxonomists for decades, but few attempts have been made to validly recognize this group. In recognition of their specific morphology and alliance, we here delineate the group from Passiflora sect. Dysosmia and validate Passiflora section Dysosmioides, discussing each of their members, distribution and ecology. Careful analyses of specimens from two recognized species showing variation led to the description of two new species for the section. An older synonymized taxon, P. bolstadii, has been segregated from the complex, here revived to the level of recognized species. Passiflora reitzii, hereto placed under other taxonomic alliances including ser. Menispermifoliae, is now included under sect. Dysosmioides. The three species commonly placed in the Dysosmioides complex, P. campanulata, P. vellozoi, and P. villosa are further revised and illustrated, with their comparison, distribution and ecology discussed. A key to the species of P. sect. Dysosmioides is included in this paper.
