Abstract

Euonymus echinatus (Celastraceae), collected from Quang Ninh Province of northern Vietnam, is reported here as a new species record for the flora of Vietnam. The species belongs to Echinococcus section with unusual for the genus character—prickles capsules. Taxonomic notes, descriptions, photographs are provided, together with short notes on the distribution, ecology and phenology of Euonymus echinatus. The data on species diversity of Euonymus in Vietnam are summarized and an identification key is compiled (21 species).
