Abstract

A new Superphylum “Monosporangiophyta” is proposed here to accommodate three phyla, viz. Marchantiophyta, Bryophyta s.str. and Anthocerotophyta under Kingdom Plantae. Among land plants, pteridophytes, gymnosperms and angiosperms together are included under Superphylum “Polysporangiophyta”. A natural group named “setaphytes” was earlier put forward to accommodate both mosses and liverworts.
