Central National Herbarium, Botanical Survey of India, Howrah 711103, West Bengal, India
Asian Pteris cryptic species species complex lectotype rare species Pteridophytes

Abstract

The Pteris aspericaulis complex is widely distributed in Himalayan regions and extends to East Asia. Due to tremendous morphological variation within and between taxa, previous taxonomic treatments have been plagued with an element of uncertainty. In this study, morphological characteristics are used to clarify and delineate each taxon. Six species are recognized in the Pteris aspericaulis complex in India, namely P. aspericaulis, P. normalis, P. roseolilacina, P. scabririgens, P. subindivisa and P. tricolor. Each species is described in detail. A key is provided to facilitate the identifications of all species.
