Abstract
Hemiboea liboensis, a new species of Gesneriaceae discovered in karst landforms of Guizhou, China is described here. We conducted a phylogenetic analysis including the new taxon and 30 other taxa in the genus, using the internal transcribed spacer sequences (ITS) of ribosomal DNA and trnL intron-trnL-F intergenic spacer region of chloroplast DNA (trnL-F). The results showed that H. liboensis forms a sister clade to H. roseoalba. Morphologically, H. liboensis is most similar to H. subcapitata, but can be distinguished by several characters: H. liboensis has creeping rhizome (vs . an erect stem only), narrow leaves with a length-width ratio of 3.1–3.5 (vs. 1.9–2.7) and a lanceolate to oblanceolate shape (vs. elliptic or obovate-elliptic), the inner abaxial surface of its corolla is predominantly purple (vs. yellow), and its anthers are ovate-lanceolate (vs. long elliptic or elliptic).
