Abstract
Powdery mildew fungi represent a significant group of plant pathogens with rich diversity in India, yet their systematics has been advanced primarily through scattered contributions by Indian scientists. This study compiles a comprehensive checklist of powdery mildew taxa described or significantly studied by Indian researchers, detailing typification information and current nomenclature status. It has been observed that many fungal taxa remain unexamined since their protologue, lacking corroborative molecular data. Furthermore, a substantially large number of taxa have been declared invalid or illegitimate, underscoring the imperative for comprehensive nomenclatural revision. To address this gap in mycological knowledge, the present review furnishes a comprehensive enumeration of powdery mildew taxa originally described from India. About 190 species of powdery mildew fungi belonging to 18 different genera have been reported from India. The genera like Arthrocladiella, Brasiliomyces, Cystotheca, Erysiphe, Farmanomyces, Kokkalera, Microsphaera, Oidiopsis, Oidium, Ovulariopsis, Phyllactinia, Pleochaeta, Podosphaera, Pseudoidium, Setoerysiphe, Sphaerotheca, Uncinula and Uncinuliella constitute a checklist of all species of indian powdery mildew fungi. Names in this checklist follow their original protologues, with current generic placements. Typification details, nomenclatural legitimacy, and systematic positions are comprehensively documented.
