Abstract

Russula tsugae is described and illustrated as a new species from Guangxi Autonomous Region, South China. Morphological characteristics of this species are provided through color photographs, line drawings and detailed descriptions. Russula tsugae is characterized by a pale pink, ocher to pale yellow pileal surface, smooth margin, acrid context taste, white spore print, pileipellis with septate pileocystidia, and a habitat in the Tsuga chinensis var. tchekiangensis forest. These morphological evidences, as well as those of ITS and five-gene (nLSU, mtSSU, rpb1, rpb2 and tef1-α) phylogenies, collectively supported the independence of this species as a new taxon in Russula sect. Felleinae.
