Abstract

A new species, Rhizocybe pleurotoides, is described from Guangdong Province, China, based on morphological, and molecular phylogenetic evidence. It is characterized by the small pleurotoid basidiomata, yellowish white pileus, short stipe (≤1 mm long) with well-developed rhizomorphs at the base, and elliptical basidiospores (average 4.28 × 3.05 μm). Phylogenetic analyses based on the combined nrITS-nrLSU-rpb2 sequence dataset strongly support its recognition as a distinct clade within the genus Rhizocybe. Detailed morphological descriptions, photographs of basidiomata, microscopic structures, and comparisons with related taxa are provided.
