Abstract

A new species of Justicia (Acanthaceae), J. tamchucensis, is described and illustrated from northern Vietnam. The new species is morphologically allied to J. leptostachya, J. myuros and J. tiandengensis. It is, however, readily distinguished by a combination of diagnostic characters, including a growth habit reaching up to 1.4 m in height, elliptic to broadly elliptic-ovate leaves, pubescent young stems, a spicate inflorescence bearing secund flowers, and a greenish-yellow corolla. Supplementary data, including photographs, habitat and ecological information, as well as pollen and seed morphology, are presented alongside a preliminary conservation assessment.
