Abstract

Hyptidinae (Lamiaceae) is a Neotropical subtribe, most diverse in Brazil, comprising approximately 400 species and currently undergoing rapid taxonomic progress. This study contributes to that progress through a revision of herbarium material combined with detailed morphological and nomenclatural analyses, clarifying the identity and systematic position of Cyanocephalus cretatus. The results confirm its reinstatement in Hyptis and the recognition of Hyptis albolanata as a heterotypic synonym. Morphological comparisons, taxonomic remarks, and an updated distribution map are provided.
