Abstract
During fieldwork in southern Santa Catarina, Brazil, we identified a taxonomic anomaly in Alstroemeria herbarium specimens, conventionally identified as Alstroemeria cunha. Detailed examination of these herbarium records and comprehensive literature review revealed distinct morphological disparities with specimens from adjacent Paraná and São Paulo States. Utilizing a combination of in situ observations, geographic distribution analysis, and rigorous morphometrics, we could distinguish a novel taxon distinct from A. cunha. This study presents in vivo photographic documentation, illustrative depictions, and insights into the ecology and conservation status of Alstroemeria durantei. A comparative table is provided, providing morphological distinctions between A. durantei and A. cunha, substantiating their taxonomic separation.
