Abstract
Peperomia mucronulata is described as a new Chilean species, extending southwards the distribution of Peperomia subg. Tildenia along the Pacific coast. Morphological, geographical, and ecological data support its classification as a clearly different taxon from the species belonging to clade D or III (which includes morphologically similar species) and P. umbilicata. A detailed description is presented, along with information on its habitat and ecology, a distribution map, and the species illustration. Additionally, a comparative table highlights the characteristics that distinguish P. mucronulata from the seven morphologically similar Peperomia species. Peperomia mucronulata is suggested to be classified as Critically Endangered (CR) according to the IUCN Red List categories.
