Abstract
Petrocodon dealbatus Hance var. minimus X.X.Bai & K.Tan, a new variety from northwest Guizhou Province, China, is described and illustrated based on molecular and morphological data. The molecular evidence shows that the new variety is recovered in a highly supported clade. Within this clade, the new one is morphologically similar to Petrocodon Hance in flower size and corolla shape, especially resembling P. dealbatus var. dealbatus in its white corolla and 2 stamens. However, it differs in its shorter leaf blade 2–2.5 cm long, narrower leaf blade 2–4 mm wide, leaf blade leathery, oblanceolate, and leaves along the stem alternate arrangement. Colour photographs, a detailed description, and a provisional IUCN Red List assessment are provided along with discussions of its geographical distribution, ecology and morphological relationships with other similar species.
