Abstract

The taxonomy of the genus Canscora (subtribe: Canscorinae; family: Gentianaceae) has long been considered problematic, mainly due to pronounced interspecific and intraspecific morphological variation. In the present study, the systematic status of Canscora bidoupensis, a species described from Vietnam, has been critically re-evaluated. Detailed examination of the type material, along with a comparative assessment of diagnostic morphological characters, reveals no consistent differences between C. bidoupensis and C. andrographioides. All characters previously used to separate the two taxa were found to fall within the range of variation observed in C. andrographioides. Consequently, C. bidoupensis is here treated as conspecific with C. andrographioides, and the former name is reduced to synonymy under C. andrographioides.
