Abstract

Bellevalia baskilense, defined as a new species from Baskil District (Elazığ), is known from a single locality. Since flower bud and perianth color and pedicel characteristics are very important for species identification of Bellevalia genus members; the changes in the inflorescences of the samples were followed until the fruits ripened and their photographs were taken. In this study, the diagnostic characters of the new species are discussed and taxonomic evaluations are presented. Although the new species has some similarities with Bellevalia speciosa and B. glauca species; it differs significantly from these species in terms of its leaf characteristics and dark violet to purplish violet flower buds, the abundance of flowers in its inflorescence, the pedicel length during flowering being 1.52 times the flower length, the perigon segments being as long as the tube length. Its photographs of the habit, bulb, scape and raceme and flower bud structures were taken using a camera and images of flowers and flower parts were taken from an binocular microscope for higher magnification. In addition to the ecological data, IUCN conservation status and distribution map of the new species, the distributions of related species are also given.
