Abstract

Continuing with contributions to the knowledge of the genus Compsoneura (Myristicaceae), particularly in high Andean zones and species with fleshy floral perianths, we describe and illustrate a new tree species of the genus from the montane forests of the Eastern Andes of Colombia. This species is primarily recorded in the Santuario de Fauna y Flora Guanentá Alto Río Fonce, a region characterized by sandstone soils and dark waters. Compsoneura guanentana is characterized by an unusual combination of traits, including eucamptodromous leaf venation, glabrous, regularly carinate fruits, and both staminate and pistillate flowers with fleshy perianths. Its eucamptodromous venation clearly distinguishes it from C. crassitepala, a recently described species from Andean forests. An illustration of the most representative characters and an updated key for the genus are provided.
