Abstract

Freshwater fungi are widely distributed worldwide. During a survey of fungal diversity in freshwater environments across different regions of the Xizang Autonomous Region, China, an interesting species growing on a submerged decaying wood was collected. To study the phylogenetic relationship of the fungus, we employed a combined ITS, LSU, tef1-α, and rpb2 sequence matrix for phylogenetic analyses. Based on morphology and multi-locus phylogenetic analysis, the fungus was confirmed as a new species in the genus Tubeufia and was named Tubeufia xizangensis. Tubeufia xizangensis is characterized by macronematous, subcylindrical, erect or slightly flexuous, short, septate conidiophores bearing solitary, muriform, curved to subreniform conidia composed of two rows of pale, multi-septate cells. The new species is compared with similar taxa, and a description, illustrations, notes, and phylogenetic evidence are provided.
