Abstract

A new orchid species in Specklinia from Ecuador and Peru is described and illustrated. Information regarding its distribution, habitat and conservation status is provided. Specklinia viridi-flava is compared with the most similar species, S. grobyi, with which the new species has been misidentified for several years, but differs by its long petiolate leaves (vs. shortly petiolate), green-pale yellow flowers (vs. yellow flowers suffused with red), spathulate, obtuse petals (vs. lanceolate, acute petals), and a column with truncate lateral wings (vs. curved lateral wings). Furthermore, the new species is compared with morphologically similar species S. bretannensis, S. crepidophylla, S. picta, and S. costaricensis.
