Abstract

Eurhynchium yezoanum, originally assigned to Eurhynchium within Brachytheciaceae, is endemic to Japan. Its close relative, Eurhynchiastrum pulchellum, is widespread across the Northern Hemisphere and occurs sporadically in East Asia. Our detailed morphological comparison revealed that the two species are conspecific. Consequently, following the principle of priority, we formally treated Eurhynchium yezoanum as a new synonym of Eurhynchiastrum pulchellum.
