Abstract

India is regarded as a biodiversity-rich hotspot for a diverse range of plants and animals due to its diverse climatic conditions and different seasons. This diversity and variability serves as important factors in the growth and development of various plant pathogenic fungi. Because of this, a broad range of rust fungi has been observed in the country. However, the information on rust fungi originated in India is still scattered and needed to be compiled. Therefore, this document was compiled to present the checklist, typification information, and nomenclature status of rust fungi that originally described from India. The observation of this study revealed that about 545 rust species belonging to 17 families and 70 genera in the order Pucciniales were originally reported from India. Here, Puccinia holds a major part with 22.38% (122) species, followed by Aecidium, which represented 15.59% (85 species), Uredo at 12.84 % (70 species), Uromyces at 8.25% (45 species) and Ravenelia at 6.05% (33 species).
