Abstract

A new, small-sized, smooth-walled species of the genus Staurastrum is described from a lake in the Oasis Larsemann Hills, East Antarctica. It was studied by light and scanning electron microscopy. The species in question, one of the smallest species known in the genus Staurastrum, is compared with some morphologically similar species.
